Class 6 - Hadrian’s Wall

  • The Purpose

    Studying the Romans is a key theme of Class 6, from the creation of the Roman Empire through to the establishment of the Republic, the Emperors, their achievements and challenges, the fall of the Empire and through the Dark Ages to the beginning of the Middle Ages.

    In Class 6 pupils study the Roman Empire, and expanding their understanding of linguistics with Latin.

  • The Experience

    A week-long visit to Hadrian’s Wall in Northumbria to experience Roman life. It includes going to the Roman Army Museum, hearing army strategy and tactics along with putting their Class 6 Latin language classes into practice and getting to grips first-hand with Roman weaponry.

    The class also visits Killhope Lead Mine in beautiful County Durham.

  • The Logistics.

    The residential trip is for 5 days / 4 nights, leaving school Monday morning, and returning Friday for end of school.

    The trip is usually in May during the summer term - the school trip team will notify you of the exact dates for a given year.

  • A full kit list will be sent from the school ahead of the trip however you can anticipate your child needing:

    Day Pack: Containing morning and afternoon snacks, water and substantial lunch for Weds to last until the evening meal.

    Clothing - please ensure your child will have enough clean clothing for 4 days.

    Please label all items with your child’s name.

  • The trip usually takes up 5 school days (Mon-Fri)

  • The Class and staff travel together from school.

    They take the train to St Pancras and then travel north by train and bus and finally taxi to Bardon Mill.

    Parents need to provide a full packed lunch plus substantial snacks and water in a day-pack for the outward travel day
